Richard excelled as a solo performer and also as a member of a renowned octet during his years at Crispus Attucks High School.  He continued with that success and notoriety as he travelled the country during his tenure at Knoxville College.  Even after college, he was a much sought-after performer for church and civic events.

As early as 1969, Joyce won first place as a member of a female quartet.  She completed four years at Regency University and two years later headed off to a stellar career in Germany.
